Model, entrepreneur, and public figure Kim opens up about the life-changing journey of motherhood and how welcoming her daughter, Giselle, has transformed her perspective on family, career, and personal growth. In this heartfelt conversation, she reflects on balancing work with motherhood, embracing a multicultural family, and the values she hopes to pass on to the next generation. From cherished Korean traditions to timeless lessons from her own mother, Kim shares the moments that have reshaped her life in the most meaningful ways.
How has motherhood changed the way you see yourself, both as a woman and as a public figure?
Motherhood has made me feel stronger and softer at the same time. Before becoming a mother, I focused on achieving goals and creating beautiful moments. Now, every decision I make is connected to Giselle’s future. My husband and I have become true partners in this journey, and watching him become a father has changed the way I see our family and myself.
As a public figure, I feel a greater responsibility to share not only fashion and beauty, but also the beauty of family, motherhood, and the everyday moments that matter most.

What was the biggest surprise about becoming a mother – something no one prepared you for?
No one prepared me for how completely a child becomes part of your heart. You hear people say, “You’ll love your baby more than anything,” but you can’t truly understand it until you experience it yourself.
I was also surprised by how much motherhood changes you emotionally. Suddenly, your priorities shift, your fears become deeper, but so does your capacity for love. It’s the most beautiful transformation I’ve ever experienced.

How do you balance your career with raising Giselle?
Balance isn’t about doing everything perfectly—it’s about being fully present wherever you are. When I’m working, I give my best to my projects. When I’m with Giselle, she has my complete attention.
I’ve also become much more intentional with my time and the partnerships I choose. I want my career to grow alongside my family, not compete with it. Thankfully, my work allows me to share this chapter of my life authentically, which makes both roles feel connected rather than separate.

Which Korean traditions do you most want to pass down to Giselle?
One of the greatest gifts my husband has given me is introducing me to the richness of Korean culture. I love how family is at the heart of everything—respect for elders, celebrating important milestones together, and creating lifelong memories through tradition.
At the same time, I want Giselle to grow up equally proud of her Azerbaijani roots. Our home is a blend of two beautiful cultures, and I hope she always embraces both with pride.

Korean first birthdays include the “doljabi” tradition, where a baby chooses an object that symbolically predicts their future. What did Giselle choose, and what did it mean to you?
Giselle chose the microphone, which traditionally symbolizes a future in communication, entertainment, or public life. It made everyone smile because, in many ways, it already felt like it reflected her personality.
Whether she grows up to be on stage or chooses a completely different path doesn’t matter to me. What mattered most in that moment was seeing her surrounded by love, celebrating a tradition that has connected Korean families for generations. It was a memory we’ll treasure forever.
What’s one lesson from your own mother that you now find yourself repeating with your daughter?
My mother always taught me that kindness and dignity never go out of style. She believed that beauty begins with the way you treat people, and that’s something I want Giselle to grow up believing as well.
More than achievements or success, I hope she becomes someone who is compassionate, confident, and true to herself. If I can pass that on to her, I’ll feel I’ve done something meaningful as a mother.
